The Swiss Re building at 30 St Mary Axe, City of London, became a London icon as soon as it was completed in December 2003. Immediate celebrity status was then bestowed upon one of London’s most recognisable new buildings. Every London-set TV show or film will forevermore feature the Gherkin in all its phallic, pickle-y glory.
